Formative Research and Design of Social and Behavior Change Communication Strategy

Mercy Corps was leading the implementation of Strengthening Community Capacity for Resilience and Growth components for a USAID funded Kenya Feed the Future Livestock Market Systems (LMS). This was to enable people, households and communities to escape poverty and chronic vulnerability and strengthen their resilience so they can do so sustainably.

CHC’s specific objective was to carry out formative research and design a Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategy to be used by LMS to contribute to improving and sustaining of Health, Nutrition and Hygiene practices in these counties.

The study involved examining the evidence on behavior in hygiene, nutrition and animal husbandry at a household level in each of the different contexts in the counties and specifically examine the barriers that need to be overcome to achieve real change.
