WASH Risk Assessment
Climate change and resulting weather extremes threaten the lives of millions of children worldwide. The security of water sources are increasingly threatened, investments in WASH infrastructure is lost & the lives of millions of children are at risk.
The impacts of the 2017 drought in Kenya were exacerbated by the high proportion of non-functional rural water systems (30 – 35%) as well as those that were not designed to be climate-resilient.
CHC’s role involved conducting three County-level WASH risk assessment exercises that were presented, discussed and validated in a workshop hosted by Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MoWI) with support from UNICEF, Conducting a review of existing systems and approaches for sustainable and resilient water systems in drought-affected counties, leading to programmatic/technical recommendations, Provide follow up support to MoWI and counties to develop costed, time-bound action plans, Provide recommendations on UNICEF support and follow up to action plans.
