CHC tests innovative Learning Sprints on Nawiri COVID-19 response in Samburu and Turkana

Adaptive implementation: Nawiri staff taking handwashing stations to Longech and Namukuse Dispensaries in Turkana by boat due to impassable roads

USAID Nawiri has been cushioning nutrition outcomes from the immediate and latent effects of COVID-19 in Samburu and Turkana counties, by supporting local systems and institutions to provide safe, uninterrupted access to essential goods and services.
To achieve this, USAID NAWIRI used Learning Sprints to drive the design and adaptive implementation of its COVID-19 response plan in the two counties.

Approach
A Learning Sprint is an intensive learning process that can be done over 100 days, 4 months, or 6 months. The methodology allows organizations to know, within a short amount of time, if their innovation is fit for the context and what the design of the activity will touch upon. It also allows for predictions on the course of the activity for the next 3-6 months.
USAID Nawiri chose Learning Sprints to ensure that its COVID-19 response is not delayed and to accelerate progress towards the program’s ultimate goal of sustainably reducing persistent acute malnutrition.
The consortium created Learning Sprint teams made up of its staff and the county government for each key result area of its COVID-19 response plan. The participants used a mix of qualitative and quantitative data and shared experiences to co-create, reflect upon, learn about, and adapt COVID-19 response activities in rapid learning cycles.
